Classes

FFS will have 3 levels of class tracks for 2023!

The weekend’s classes will kick off with concurrent “Leads’ Orientation” and “Follow Empower Hour.” Additionally, full weekend passes include 4 hours of tracked/leveled classes and 3 blocks of electives.

FUNdamentals:

This year our FUNdamentals track will be geared to complete beginners. FUNdamental classes will be accessible to new balboa dancers or anyone wanting to brush up on their basics in Balboa and bal-swing, but no prior experience is needed.

Intermediate:

This track is meant for dancers that have taken some balboa classes and are comfortable with Pure Bal basics, transitions to Bal-Swing, and dancing classic figures in open position.

The intermediate track will be beneficial for leads and follows that need inspiration or training to develop their own personal style of balboa. This track will also challenge dancers that have taken some balboa series classes or have attended workshops in the past, but who need more guidance on developing dynamic movement and more advanced partnership skills in their balboa.

This track will still assume that you can execute what is traditionally referred to as “the basics,” including:

  • Balboa or Pure Bal: Most common basics (upholds, downholds), ad-libs, and paddles.
  • Bal-Swing: Out & ins, Lollies, swivels, toss outs (aka throw outs). Follows should also feel comfortable responding to different types of turns.

Advanced

The Advanced track is meant for dancers that are confident in their balboa and are looking for a challenge. If you have attended multiple workshops and are already training or developing your own styling, this track is for you. Dancers in this track will be presented with stylings and concepts for more complex or less common figures. Additionally, instructors will provide tools/drills to train your dancing so that you can confidently execute unique ideas within traditional balboa moves or sequences.
